Colonoscopy remains the most effective and reliable method to screen for colorectal cancer — the most common cancer in Singapore. It allows doctors to accurately detect and remove polyps before they turn cancerous, helping to prevent colorectal cancer altogether.
During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube with a camera is gently inserted into the rectum to examine the entire colon. Any polyps or suspicious growths can be removed on the spot. The procedure typically takes 30 to 60 minutes and is done under sedation for maximum comfort.
